The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and the World Bank (IBRD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday the 6th, aiming to create a basis for the two institutions to jointly act in developing financial instruments for infrastructure.

The document was signed in Washington by Dyogo Oliveira, BNDES’ President, and Jorge Familiar, World Bank’s Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean. Mr; Oliveira is in the USA capital to participate in the 22nd Annual CAF Conference (Development Bank of Latin America).

“From the memorandum, there are several possibilities for acting together with the World Bank: it will be possible to have joint infrastructure funds, operating as co-financiers of the same project. We will have coordinated actions to purchase infrastructure debentures, for instance,” said the President of BNDES, who also met, this Thursday, with Jim Yong Kim, President of IBRD. According to Mr. Oliveira, the agreement signed today is aligned with several other BNDES’s initiatives in partnership with multilateral organizations – such as the World Bank itself, IDB and CAF – in order to create investment funds.
