• Project establishes port, road, railway and environmental works

The BNDES has approved R$ 920.3 million in financing to the Pernambuco state government to establish the Port Infrastructure Development Program. The project includes port, road, railway, port-related areas and environmental research interventions in the Port Industrial Complex “Governador Eraldo Gueiros” (Suape). This will be run directly by the state government or through the Suape company itself.

During implementation, works will create approximately 2,000 new jobs. Earthwork, paving, drainage, road lighting and implementation of signage in the Industrial Zone is expected to attract investment and new business, The loan will also be used to construct bridges, overpasses, paving, implementation of signage and upgrading roads. The proposed works include duplication of the Tronco Distribuidor Rodoviário Norte (TDR - NORTE) road and implementation of the Suape Expressway (Cabo de Santo Agostinho).

Funding also includes the implementation of light rail transit (LRT) as public transport of passengers from the terminals of Cajueiro Seco and Cabo de Santo Agostinho (already implemented) to the Massangana road-railway station (to be renovated) in the Suape complex. To do so, the railway line will be recovered, stations will be built, overpasses - one railway and one road - will be implemented, and a bridge will be restored.

At the port, rip-rap (rock armor) will be enhanced to protect the embankment. The North and South hillocks from the headlands for access to the inner port will also receive protection works. Areas in the inner port will be dredged for future construction of four more piers (6, 7, 8 and 9). The multipurpose pier will undergo a structural renovation. There will also be dredging works on the marine cluster, enabling the construction of new shipyards.

The operation also includes construction of the Environmental Technology Center (CTA) in Suape, which will be dedicated to the study, research and care for degraded areas, training environmental agents and seedling production center with a laboratory.
