BNDES approves credit limit of R$ 2.46 billion for Braskem investment program

• Resources will support the investment plan of the petrochemical company in the states of Bahia, Alagoas, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul in the 2011-2013 period

The BNDES approved a credit limit of R$ 2.46 billion for Braskem S.A. Funds are earmarked to support the investment plan of the petrochemical company in the states of Bahia, Alagoas, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul.

The plan includes investments for the 2011-2013 period, amounting to R$ 4.27 billion, with implementation, expansion and modernization of assets, acquisition of machinery and equipment, as well as social, environmental, technology and innovation investments. Braskem’s current innovation structure has a staff of 200 employees and three technology centers.

The expiry date of the BNDES credit limit is 120 months from the date it is contracted, and releases are made upon presentation of specific financing projects.

Through the credit limit, the Bank provides revolving credit, with a maximum value defined by the BNDES, for financial support for low-risk enterprises or economic groups. It is aimed at the implementation of current investments in their respective sectors as well as in research, development and innovation.

Braskem, producer of thermoplastic resins, operates in the polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC markets. It has approximately 5,000 direct employees in 19 industrial units, located in the cities of Camaçari (Bahia), Maceió and Marechal Deodoro (Alagoas), Triunfo (Rio Grande do Sul) and Paulínia (São Paulo).

The control of Braskem is shared between Petrobras and Odebrecht Group.

The BNDES has a recurring profit of BRL 1.7 billion in the first quarter
Net income, which is influenced by extraordinary events such as Petrobras dividends and reversal of provision for credit risk, was BRL 4 bn. Recurring income comes mainly from the lower average balance of Treasury - mainly due to early settlements to the Treasury in the 4th quarter/22. Disbursements totaled BRL 19.1 billion, compared to BRL 14.8 billion in the 1st quarter of 22 Default remained at a low level: 0.06%.
