BNDES approves financing for the expansion of the Jerusalém Wind Farm Complex in Rio Grande do Norte

Nov 26, 2020

The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) approved financing for the implementation of six wind farms in the Jerusalém Wind Farm Complex, in addition to associated transmission systems, in the cities of Lajes, Pedro Avelino and Pedra Preta, in Rio Grande do Norte. The initiative of EDP Renováveis S.A. will generate clean and renewable energy capable of supplying electricity to 270,000 homes. The construction will employ about 1,150 people.

The main aspect of the project is the acquisition of 43 national wind turbines, which are the equipment for the conversion of wind energy into electricity. The other investments supported by BNDES will involve the construction of 27 km of transmission lines and an energy substation. The Jerusalém Complex will have an installed capacity of 180.6 MW, to be added to the national interconnected system.

The generation investments of BNDES are aligned with the effort of the National Plan on Climate Change (PNMC) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Plan also seeks to “maintain the high participation of renewable energy in the electric matrix, preserving the prominent position that Brazil has always occupied in the international scenario.” The Bank efforts also meet the National Energy Plan 2030 of the National Government, with strategies to expand economic and sustainable energy in the next ten years.

The financing of up to R$ 568 million will be granted to the six Special Purpose Entities (SPE): Wind Power Plants Jerusalém S.A. from I to VI. Each of them will be responsible for a specific farm. The SPEs are controlled by Jerusalém Holding S.A, which is under the management of EDP Renováveis Brasil S.A.
