With R$ 1.7 bi received in the quarter, Agriculture accounted for 24.7% of the total
In the accumulated in 12 months, disbursements for infrastructure and for the Northeastern region have grown, which mostly results from the investments in wind energy
The Brazilian Social and Economic Development Bank (BNDES) disbursed R$ 6.85 billion in the first quarter of 2018. Of this total, 55.5% ($3.8 billion) were intended for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. Once again smaller companies have relevant participation in BNDES’s disbursements.
The sector that received the greatest part of the Bank’s resources during the period was infrastructure: R$2.44 billion — the electricity segment having stood out, with about R$ 1.1 billion. The energy segment, mainly investments in wind farms, is also one of those responsible for the performance of the Northeast region, which received R$ 1.5 billion in the quarter and R$ 13.6 billion in the last 12 months up to February, with 15% growth compared to the previous 12 months.
Another highlight was the Agricultural segment, which — with R$ 1.7 billion received in the quarter — accounted for 24.7% of the total. Also in the quarter, the disbursements for commerce and services totaled R$ 1.73 billion, while industry received R$ 985 million.
BNDES Giro – The disbursements for BNDES Giro — which is accessed mainly by smaller enterprises and provides working capital to overcome moments of crisis and for the maintenance of jobs — reached nearly R$ 1 bi up to February (R$ 931 million), and the number of operations through the program grew 5%. In the last 12 months, the program has accumulated an 88% increase, with R$ 6.8 billion having been disbursed. Also in 12 months, the number of operations is 122%, which indicates the capillarity of the credit.
These data are reinforced by a survey that was recently carried out by the Bank’s Indirect Operations Department, according to which 40% of the almost 12 thousand disbursements granted between August and December last year through the new program were intended for enterprises that had never obtained resources from BNDES. Among the new clients, 53% are micro-enterprises.
Accumulated in 12 months – In that accumulated between March 2017 and February 2018, BNDES disbursed R$ 67.6 billion, of which R$ 25.9 billion was intended for infrastructure projects, 2% higher than the amount disbursed for the sector in the 12 preceding months.
There was also an increase in the disbursements to MSMEs, which reached R$ 29.2 billion in that accumulated in 12 months, 9% above the total disbursed between March 2016 and February 2017.
Approvals grow – Approvals for new financing grew 5% in the first quarter, adding up to R$ 9 billion. The infrastructure sector stood out here as well, with R$ 4.2 billion, 51% more than the amount approved in the first quarter of last year. A total of R$2.49 billion for the trade and services sector, R$ 1.66 billion for agriculture and R$ 681 million for industry were also approved. From December 2017, the curve of approvals surpassed that of disbursements, which indicates a trend of future growth of the releases.
