BNDES finances distribution of PPEs to public hospitals in Minas Gerais

 The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) approved a loan of R$ 12 million to Alfalagos, a Minas Gerais distributor of medication and hospital items. The support will allow to acquire an initial batch of 365,000 glove boxes, containing 100 units each, for supply that can reach up to 1.68 million boxes.  The operation is part of the BNDES Emergency Support Program to Combat the Coronavirus Pandemic. The gloves will be distributed in public hospitals of the state and to other organs of the public administration of Minas Gerais, such as the departments of Health, Education, Justice, Public Security, Environment, Security Forces (Military and Civil Police and Fire Department) and even to state universities, in addition to the Belo Horizonte City Hall. 

The purchase of the gloves integrates the bidding process carried out by the State Department of Planning and Management of Minas Gerais for the acquisition of several PPEs for state agencies. The process was won by Alfalagos in the item nonsurgical disposable gloves. The value of the public contract signed between the state and the company is R$ 62.2 million, with BNDES support corresponding to about 19% of this amount.

BNDES Emergency Support Program to Combat the Coronavirus Pandemic – Launched late March as one of BNDES actions to combat the effects of the new coronavirus pandemic, the program has already approved R$ 293 million in nine operations, resulting in the availability of more than 2,800 beds for the care of patients infected with Covid-19; 4.5 million rapid diagnostic kits for the disease and 1,500 monitors.

The BNDES has a recurring profit of BRL 1.7 billion in the first quarter
Net income, which is influenced by extraordinary events such as Petrobras dividends and reversal of provision for credit risk, was BRL 4 bn. Recurring income comes mainly from the lower average balance of Treasury - mainly due to early settlements to the Treasury in the 4th quarter/22. Disbursements totaled BRL 19.1 billion, compared to BRL 14.8 billion in the 1st quarter of 22 Default remained at a low level: 0.06%.

Executive Board presents 2022 profit and projects BNDES’ size to double to 2% of GDP by 2026
“Our project is to return to the historical level of BNDES disbursements since the beginning of the implementation of the Real, which is 2% of GDP. For this, we want to double the size of BNDES by 2026 so that it can fulfill its role of economic and social development,” said BNDES President Aloizio Mercadante at a press conference held on Tuesday the 14th, at the bank's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
