BNDES provides R$ 69 MM in financing for new paint factory in RJ

Mar 4, 2013

• With this funding, Jotun Brasil will install an industrial unit in Itaboraí with the capacity to produce 10 million liters per year of solvent-based paint

The BNDES has approved R$ 69 million in financing for Jotun Brasil Importação Exportação e Indústria de Tintas Ltda. With these resources, the company will set up an industrial plant in Itaboraí (RJ), located 45 km from Rio de Janeiro capital, with the capacity to produce 10 million liters per year of solvent-based paint.

The operation has already been awarded within the scope of the Support Program to Develop the Goods and Services Suppliers related to the Natural Oil & Gas sector (BNDES P&G).

The Project is part of a much broader initiative, which aims at increasing the capacity of the company, originally from Norway, to meet the demand in the Brazilian market for finishing paints, focusing mainly on the oil and gas segment (maritime and offshore), representing 75% of these sales in Brazil. It will also allow the enterprise to expand and consolidate its activities in the sector.

Established in Brazil in 1998, Jotun, until now, did not have an industrial plant in the country, making use of facilities in partner firms to produce a part of its products in Brazil. The firm has a consolidated position in the Brazilian market for paint, focusing mainly on the maritime, offshore and industrial segments. The company operates mainly in the oil and gas sector, with products such as anticorrosive primers, polyurethane top coats and antifouling paint.

As the operation gets underway, more possibilities will open up to increase the brand’s locally-produced product list, not only with products produced by Jotun, but also with those produced by partner companies.
