• A contract with JBIC and Mizuho Bank was signed on March 27 during a IBD meeting held in the state of Bahia

On March 27, the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), during the Annual IBD Meeting, held in Costa do Sauípe (BA), signed a financing contract valued at US$ 300 million with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the Mizuho Bank, Ltd. The signing ceremony featured the presence of the president of the BNDES, Luciano Coutinho, and the president of JBIC, Hiroshi Watanabe.

The operation was carried out within the scope of the GREEN Line (Global Action for Reconciling Economic Growth and Environmental Preservation), which aims to support projects that favor the preservation of the world’s environment, promoting the reduction of greenhouse gases, energy efficiency and energy generation from renewable sources. In 2011, the BNDES signed a fundraising contract with the JBIC along the same lines, which also included financial collaboration from Mizuho Bank Ltd.

Since the 1950s, the BNDES has operated in partnership with multilateral organizations and governmental agencies to diversify and amplify its funding. The relationship between the BNDES and the JBIC began in 1962, when the first loan contract with the Export-Import Bank of Japan (JEXIM), JBIC’s antecessor, was signed.

Since then, some 15 contracts have been signed, including the GREEN Line’s new cooperation. For over 50 years, JBIC and the BNDES have sought to permanently develop activities aimed at strengthening their institutional relationship even more.

With this new loan contract, the BNDES has reinforced its strategy to expand its relationship with international financial institutions, increasing the scale of investments carried out in partnership with multilateral organizations and governmental agencies.
