BNDES study forecasts investments of R$ 4.1 tri in 2015-2018

December 3, the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) released two publications estimating investments forecast in the Brazilian economy for the 2015-2018 period. 

Prepared by the Bank’s Economic Research Division, this is the ninth consecutive edition of the report Perspectives on Investment, mapping out investment plans and company projects, including those receiving support from the BNDES, but not restricted to them.

The current map for the 2015-2018 period forecasts investments in the Brazilian economy of R$ 4.1 trillion in Industry, Infrastructure, Housing, Agriculture and Services. Estimated numbers represent growth of 17.1% against that effectively recorded in 2010-2013.

The highest growth expected is in the Infrastructure sector, in which R$ 598 billion will be invested against the R$ 457 billion in the previous period, representing an estimated increase of 30%. Highlights in this area are ports and railways with respective estimated growths of 141% and 99%, according to the report. Investments in other sectors should grow 19% (Housing), 18.5% (Industry) and 11% (Agriculture and Services).

Overviews – The BNDES also released today the series of studies entitled Sectorial Overviews 2015-2018. The publication contains articles prepared by technicians from different divisions within the Bank, analyzing 20 sectors of the economy: Aerospace, Farming, Automotive, Beverages, Capital Assets, Pulp, Electronics, Industrial Health, the Creative Economy, Electric, Food industry, the Chemical Industry, Cargo Logistics, Urban Mobility, Oil and Gas, Urban Solid Waste, Basic Sanitation, Metallurgy, the Sugar-ethanol Industry and Telecommunications.

The BNDES has a recurring profit of BRL 1.7 billion in the first quarter
Net income, which is influenced by extraordinary events such as Petrobras dividends and reversal of provision for credit risk, was BRL 4 bn. Recurring income comes mainly from the lower average balance of Treasury - mainly due to early settlements to the Treasury in the 4th quarter/22. Disbursements totaled BRL 19.1 billion, compared to BRL 14.8 billion in the 1st quarter of 22 Default remained at a low level: 0.06%.

Executive Board presents 2022 profit and projects BNDES’ size to double to 2% of GDP by 2026
“Our project is to return to the historical level of BNDES disbursements since the beginning of the implementation of the Real, which is 2% of GDP. For this, we want to double the size of BNDES by 2026 so that it can fulfill its role of economic and social development,” said BNDES President Aloizio Mercadante at a press conference held on Tuesday the 14th, at the bank's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
