BNDES supports 13th edition of Rio Festival

Oct 6, 2011

The BNDES supports Rio Festival 2011, an event in the audiovisual sector that begins October 6 and continues until October 18 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The exhibition, which is now in its 13th edition, will open with a gala presentation of film “La piel que habito”, of the Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar.

The funds contributed by the BNDES are earmarked mainly for the business aspect of the event, RioMarket, which will begin on October 7. It is the largest event in the film market and entertainment in Latin America, whose program - free on the first weekend - is concentrated in warehouse 6 of the port of Rio.

RioMarket is the place where Business Rounds take place – meetings among and between producers, international co-production companies and exhibitors, with a focus on marketing. This year, there will be so-called RioScreenings, which are presentations of audiovisual products in booths open to an audience of buyers of content for film, TV and digital media.

In the place, there will also be RioSeminars, debates on current issues that concern the audiovisual industry. New trends, digital cinema, 3D production, piracy, business models and social networking are some of the issues that are addressed by Brazilian and foreign guests, among them the vice-president of 20th Century Fox International, Tomas Jegeus, and the manager of Product Marketing Monetization at Facebook, Jon Fougner.

Also in RioMarket, there will be workshops, short courses taught by renowned professionals, for which the BNDES will distribute 15 scholarships among college students. Sound workshops, photographs, costumes, digital effects and script for games are some of the activities planned.

In addition to showing the most significant films produced in Brazil and abroad, the Rio Festival plays the important role of bringing together the various agents not only in the film industry, but in the whole audiovisual industry. The meeting enables the exchange of information, the establishment of a common agenda and structuring of new projects. The BNDES has supported the event since 2006.
