Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises had more than half of the BNDES disbursement in January

The segment starts the year with record participation in the performance of the Bank and gets 56% of the R$3.9 billion released in the period

The Trade and Services sector grew in January (5%) and infrastructure stands out in twelve months, with an increase of 6%

Projects of the so-called Green Economy (renewable energy, public transport, agricultural improvements, etc.) received R$1 bi, with an increase of 40% in this 1st month 

 

The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) disbursed R$ 3.9 billion in January. Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) received R$ 2.2 billion, corresponding to 56% of everything that was released. The medium-sized enterprises — that have annual revenue of up to R$ 300 million — alone were, responsible for 29.5% of disbursements in the first month of the year and kept R$ 1.13 billion, which means an increase of 59% in the month. 

In the past twelve months, BNDES releases totaled R$ 69.9 billion. Also during this period, between February 2017 and January 2018, MSMEs grew by 9%, reaching R$ 29.6 billion. 

Growth factors – The expressive growth of medium and small-sized enterprises is reflected in the performance of the Bank’s programs that give priority to this segment. 

The BNDES Finame line, which finances the acquisition of machinery and equipment, had disbursements of R$ 1.1billion in January, accumulating R$ 19.4 billion in twelve months (increase of 11%).  

The BNDES Automatic line, which supports investment projects of up to R$ 20 million, increased 12% between February 2017 and January 2018, accumulating R$ 14.8 billion. In January, disbursements for the line were R$ 1.1 billion.

The BNDES Giro program disbursed R$ 558 million in this first month, totaling R$ 7 billion in twelve months (increase of 124%). BNDES Giro is the program through which companies, specially the smaller ones, can obtain funds to overcome moments of crisis, keeping jobs. 

Sectors – In January, the sector that stood out in the BNDES performance was Trade and Services, with disbursements of R$ 1.1 billion, 5% higher than in January 2017. 

In the past twelve months, the Infrastructure sector was a positive highlight (increase of 6%) mainly driven by the performance of the electric power sector (increase of 48%). 

The amount of R$ 14.1 billion was released to electric power between February 2017 and January 2018, which helped the Infrastructure segment to achieve the total of R$ 26.8 billion in BNDES disbursements in the same period. 

Green economy – Since 2012, the Bank has also monitored all releases to the so-called Green Economy, group that includes development projects allied to sustainable growth. In this segment, BNDES disbursements grew by 40% in January 2018, reaching R$ 1 billion. In twelve months, the accumulated amount increased 5%, with R$ 15 billion released. 

Regional – In terms of regional distribution, the Northeast remains as the highlight, closing 2017 with growth of 24% and starting January with strong increase of 96%, compared with the same month last year. With R$ 1.1 billion received (29.4% of the total released by the Bank), it was the region with the largest share in the disbursements in January. The Midwest also increased at the beginning of the year, although at a lesser pace (3%), and received R$ 586 million (15.2% of the total disbursed).

Future – BNDES performance numbers measured in January 2018, by operation phase, maintained downward trend, except for the new financing approvals (R$ 4.7 billion), which grew in this first month by 2% in comparison with January 2017. In the past twelve months, the approvals totaled R$ 75 billion.

The BNDES has a recurring profit of BRL 1.7 billion in the first quarter
Net income, which is influenced by extraordinary events such as Petrobras dividends and reversal of provision for credit risk, was BRL 4 bn. Recurring income comes mainly from the lower average balance of Treasury - mainly due to early settlements to the Treasury in the 4th quarter/22. Disbursements totaled BRL 19.1 billion, compared to BRL 14.8 billion in the 1st quarter of 22 Default remained at a low level: 0.06%.

Executive Board presents 2022 profit and projects BNDES’ size to double to 2% of GDP by 2026
“Our project is to return to the historical level of BNDES disbursements since the beginning of the implementation of the Real, which is 2% of GDP. For this, we want to double the size of BNDES by 2026 so that it can fulfill its role of economic and social development,” said BNDES President Aloizio Mercadante at a press conference held on Tuesday the 14th, at the bank's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
