Living Forest
Floresta Viva (Living Forest) is a BNDES initiative aimed at supporting ecological restoration projects with native species in all Brazilian biomes. Floresta Viva also works to strengthen the technical and management structure of the restoration sector's production chain and to support agroforestry production systems associated with ecological restoration.
With the goal of investing R$693 million over 7 years, Floresta Viva has 50% of resources coming from the BNDES Socio-Environmental Fund, and 50% coming from Supporting Institutions. It is expected to reach between 25,000 and 35,000 hectares of restored area, with the removal of 8 to 11 million tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, considering a 25-year vegetation growth cycle.
8 public calls launched for a total support amount of R$ 236.2 million for ecological restoration projects throughout Brazil.
Until now, 42 projects were selected, 7,616 hectares will be restored and more than 3 million tCO2 will be captured.
To date, the following institutions have combined financial resources* with BNDES in Floresta Viva:
- Petrobras, with R$50 million
